Scalp MICROPIGMENTATION (smp)

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that creates the appearance of fuller hair or a closely-shaved scalp using tiny, layered dots of pigment. Think of it as a specialized form of tattooing designed to mimic the look of natural hair follicles.

Purpose

  • Conceals thinning hair, bald spots, or scars on the scalp.

  • Can give the illusion of a full buzz-cut for men or density for women with thinning hair.

  • Often used as a complement to hair transplants or as a standalone solution.

Procedure

  • A trained practitioner uses micro-needles to deposit pigment into the upper layers of the scalp.

  • The dots are layered to replicate natural hair growth patterns, color, and density.

  • Usually done over 2–4 sessions, depending on the extent of coverage needed.

Benefits

  • Immediate visual improvement in hair density.

  • Low maintenance compared to wigs or hairpieces.

  • Long-lasting results (though touch-ups may be needed every few years).

  • Non-invasive with minimal downtime.

Considerations

  • The pigment doesn’t grow like natural hair—it’s purely cosmetic.

  • Proper color matching is crucial to look natural.

  • Sun exposure and certain skin products can affect longevity.

SMP is like “tricking the eye” into seeing hair where there’s thinning or no hair, giving a youthful and defined hairline or the appearance of fuller density.
